This listing is for a set of six Wishbone Chairs designed by highly regarded Danish designer, Hans Wegner. Also known as the CH24 or Y-chair, the Wishbone Chair was first produced by the Danish manufacturer Carl Hansen & Son in 1949.  It is one of the most iconic Danish furniture pieces, and is still highly collectible. 

The chairs in this listing were purchased in the 1960s and still bear their original labels (big plus). It is difficult to assess their condition from the photos and description, but it is critical for any prospective buyer to look for structural faults or major blemishes. Condition is everything with higher end pieces like this and it will make all the difference in their value. If they are in good, solid condition, $200 per chair is a very reasonable price. If they are in excellent condition, $200 is a great price.

If you like these, I suggest you act fast. Listings like this are few and far between - this is the first time I have seen these chairs on Craig's List. If you are willing to buy all 6, I am sure you can negotiate a discount.

Imitation Saarinen / Knoll style table

Modern furniture for sale! CB2 Table - $120 (Adams Morgan)

This listing, for multiple peieces of furniture, includes a modern kitchen table styled after the infamous Tulip Table designed by Eero Saarinen for Florence Knoll.  The real thing, in all white (like this one), sells for over $1,000.  This imitation (not identical) by CB2, sells for just $190 new, and is still in production.

So, while this is not a vintage piece, it is undeniably similar to the modern classic and still a very nice style. Given that this is being offered at quite close to the cost of a new one of these from CB2, the seller should definitely be willing to drop the price to at least $100. This would be a great addition to your mid century modern home.

This listing is for a set of six Danish modern style dining chairs. These have a distinct Danish modern style, plus a little bit of flair. Overall the upholstery looks to be in good condition, although the posting does indicate (and show) some wear on one of the chairs. Beautiful Danish Modern Credenza

Danish sideboard, teak - $250 (Leesburg, VA)

As I have mentioned before, and you probably know, Danish modern credenzas are extremely popular right now.  And, in my opinion, this for a good reason; these pieces of furniture are beautiful, functional, and work well in almost every home in either a living or dining room.  This one, in particular, is very nice.  It has a classic design - simple facade, visible wood grain, strong horizontal lines, and a low profile.  This piece also combines drawers and cabinets, making it extra-functional.

Finally, at this price it is a great deal.  Look around on the internet and in stores and you will quickly find that a piece like this will regularly sell for $700 and up. This is a great opportunity to own a beautiful piece of furniture and maybe even make a few bucks.

Danish modern side chairs

Danish Modern Style Arm Chairs - $70 (Hunt Valley, MD)

Here are two beautiful arm chairs by Lane with a very Danish modern, mid century style. The upholstery looks flawless (corroborated by the seller), and matches the dark natural wood stain beautifully.

These are simple, elegant chairs that were probably once part of a dining set, but as a pair would work well as desk chairs or as side chairs for your living room.

Given the condition, $70 for the pair is a reasonable price, although it never hurts to negotiate.

FREE modern desk!

Beautiful antique desk!!! (North Bethesda)

A nice, modern looking desk available for FREE to the first person to pick it up in North Bethesda (preferably Saturday).  This is a cool desk, particularly for the price - medium stained wood with a white (formica?) top.  A unique and simple design with a single drawer, plus shelves and storage compartments below.  I love the single leg on the left side.

Scan china with wood and glass - $299 (Potomac)

For some reason everyone seems to be selling their floating top china cabinet this week (see earlier posts)...  This is a newer looking piece by Scan with a floating top, glass-front cabinet and what looks like veneer all around.  Not as nice as some of the older cabinets in this style, but still a simple, functional design that will go well among other modern furniture. I am, in general, a big fan of this style of cabinet for its dual functions in displaying items on top and in the pass-through area, as well as providing hidden storage below through a combination of cabinets and drawers.

The cabinet is offered at a reasonable price, but the seller will also take offers and I think it would be fair to offer at least $50 less for this piece.

Overall not the most amazing piece of furniture in this style, but still a good one, and certainly a good find for the modern collector on a budget.

Beautiful Scandinavian modern dining set!!

Three-piece Scandinavian dining set - $750 (Potomac Falls)

This is a beautiful three-piece, modern Scandinavian dining room set, which seemingly includes a buffet/credenza, a china cabinet combo, and a table and chairs, possibly, although the listing is unclear.  The china cabinet and credenza are both beautiful - very clean, very simple, very modern.  I am huge fan of floating top china cabinets, and this one looks fantastic, with a rich natural wood color on all the pieces.  Unfortunately, you can't see the table or chairs clearly in the picture... however, $750 is a good deal even if just the two pieces are included, so the table and chairs are really just a bonus.

If I had room for this, I would not be posting it here! Better contact the seller quickly if you are interested.

Modern Scan headboard and king mattress - Reduced!

Beautiful King Bed Frame and Mattress - $300 (Bethesda) - NOW $150

This is the second headboard like this in a week, though this one appears to be in better shape than the last. This king-size headboard from Scan has beautiful wood grain and clean lines. The burlap / fabric inset reminds me of the design of an earlier Paul McCobb "caned" headboard, although this piece is clearly more recent (and not as nice).

This listing also includes a king size mattress, which may be good or bad depending on your situation. Overall, a nice modern piece at a reasonable price.

Dining room set

Wood Dining Set for Sale - $800 (Reston)

Let me start by saying that I definitely would not pay $800 for this set. That said, I am sure that the seller will be willing to take offers - even low ones. I love these chairs (there are 6); they have a very unique style that is reminiscent of some other Danish modern pieces I have seen in the past. Although it's a bit hard to tell from the photo, the credenza also appears to have a classic modern style with nice horizontal lines. The china cabinet is less exciting, particularly the trim around the top (which seems a mismatch), but as part of the set it's not half bad and is certainly a functional piece.

At the right price, I think this would be a great modern dining set.

Modern credenza

Mid Century Modern Credenza / Dresser - $445 obo (NW DC)

This is a beautiful modern credenza / sideboard / buffet in dark stain with a Danish mid century look. These credenzas are very "in" right now and can fetch a hefty price. In addition to being nice from a design standpoint, this would be a great functional piece to add storage (reduce clutter) and create a display space for your mid century or atomic lamp, vase, or other artifact.

At $445, this piece is on the top-end of what I would like to spend through Craig's List, however these are hard to find for much cheaper, and I think this piece would really hold its re-sale value. And note that the seller is willing to take offers... never hurts to ask!

Teak desk

Teak desk - $85 (Vienna)

Simple, modern, $85... those qualities alone add up to a good deal. This is also a neat looking, functional desk. Can't tell from the photo if this is veneer (they say it is solid teak, but the description of drawer insides makes me wonder) and if so, what condition it is in.  Regardless, I think this is a cool modern desk at a good price, and definitely worth a couple questions to the seller about condition.

Now you just need to find the perfect Danish modern chair to go with it!

Danish modern king size headboard

Solid teak Scan headboard (king) - $200 (Falls Church)

Very nice king-size headboard by Scan with modern lines and what looks like a wicker or burlap inset.  Looks fairly new, although the style is similar to other mid century styles.  It reminds me particularly of a Paul McCobb "caned" headboard which had a similar style but lighter wood and stain. 

A little pricey but a really cool and unique piece, and possibly negotiable.

Very nice, low profile, fabric-upholstered lounge chair with retro flair.  Plenty of style to match your Danish / mid century modern look, and an ideal compliment to your weekend slippers and pajamas.  Great mustard-ish fabric color and looks to be in good condition.  I could definitely see myself doing the Sunday crossword in this chair.  $50 is a great price.

Modern bookcase / credenza combo

Solid wood hutch/bookcase - $100 (McLean)

This is a great looking credenza / bookcase combo that would add great storage and style to your home.  And this is a great deal - you are unlikely to find something of this size and style for anywhere near $100.  If you have the space and are looking for storage solutions, this is a great piece. 

There is no indication of the condition but it looks at least pretty good in the photo. Worth a look!

SCAN table and chairs

Solid Teak Dining Room Table and Chairs - $400 (Centreville)

For $400, this table and 4 chairs combo is generally a bit pricey for my Craig's List taste.  However, a new solid wood table from IKEA will set you back $350 without chairs, so taking that into consideration I have decided to include it here.  Not to mention that this price is probably negotiable. Especially if you say you'll take it, and then show up with only $350 (someone did this to us).

From what I can tell, the wood grain and stain have a standard Danish / Scandanavian style that would go well with other similar Danish and/or mid century decor.  The chairs seem to be in good shape, in spite of the bland but easily replaced upholstery.  The downside is that this seems to be a large table and there are only 4 chairs...  Also, the pictures don't show the table legs.

If you are in the market for a table, this one would definitely be worth a look and some questions to the seller about condition and construction, because frankly, these pictures are terrible.  I'm consistently amazed at how much trouble people have taking pictures... all you have to do is get the full object in the frame and press a button - that's it.

CIRCA 1960 STYLE WALNUT COUCH (CENTREVILLE)

Probably the ugliest upholstery I have seen in my life.  However, this couch has a cool, lounge style and has a lot of potential - I love the legs and the wood detail on the arms, and if it is walnut as the owner says, it is likely still sturdy and easily refinished (if necessary).

Given that the couch is FREE, you could easily invest a few hundred bucks in getting it reupholstered in whatever color you choose.  Or just ditch the back cushions.

Get it while it's hot! If you don't - I might.

Danish modern dresser

DRESSER AND MIRROR SET -DANISH MODERN - $145 (BETHESDA)

Very nice style on this "Danish" dresser and mirror. I like the combination of horizontal and vertical lines, although this piece would be nice with or without the mirror. A good price assuming the condition is OK, and definitely worth a look if you are in the market for a dresser.

Price may be negotiable, but better contact the seller ASAP - this will not survive the weekend.
