Pair of Knoll Tables - $100 (NoVA)

This listing is for a pair of simple yet beautiful Knoll side tables. The tables are very similar, but they are not quite matching. One has a black "t-angle" base (the legs are shaped like the letter t), while the other has a chrome base. Both tops appear to be walnut laminate / veneer. It is hard to tell from the pictures, but it seems that these are from two different eras - the chrome base being a more recent piece, whereas the one with the black t-angle base dates to the early 1950s. This table was designed by Florence Knoll (in 1948, I believe) and has been a standard in Knoll's catalog ever since (with varying materials).

They are functional and versatile tables that were often used in an office setting but are equally useful at home. With a price of $150 for the pair, before negotiation, this is a great deal, assuming they are in good condition (i.e. laminate fully intact).

Knoll Bertoia Side Chairs (4)

Knoll Bertoia Wire Chairs (set of 4) - $500 (Montgomery Village)

This listing is for a set of four wire chairs produced by Knoll and designed by Harry Bertoia. As you probably know, these "Bertoia Side Chairs" are among the most classic and instantly recognizable of the period, and were introduced in 1952. And it is for a good reason - they are beautiful.

There are a few things to note about these chairs and this particular listing:

1. There are a lot of reproductions of this chair out there, and I am not expert in distinguishing... do your homework and directly ask the seller how he knows these are authentic.

2. New reproductions sell for about $150 a chair (set of 4 would cost $600).

3. Vintage originals of this chair sell for around $250-300 a piece (eBay).

4. The chairs are still in production and sell for over $400 each (DWR)

5. The chairs in this posting have been painted black. That certainly does not help the value, but I don't know how much of an impact it may have.

Overall, $500 for these chairs, even if they are a reproduction (seller says they are real), is a good deal. On top of that, he states that the price is negotiable. A great find if you are in the market for a set like this.

Imitation Saarinen / Knoll style table

Modern furniture for sale! CB2 Table - $120 (Adams Morgan)

This listing, for multiple peieces of furniture, includes a modern kitchen table styled after the infamous Tulip Table designed by Eero Saarinen for Florence Knoll.  The real thing, in all white (like this one), sells for over $1,000.  This imitation (not identical) by CB2, sells for just $190 new, and is still in production.

So, while this is not a vintage piece, it is undeniably similar to the modern classic and still a very nice style. Given that this is being offered at quite close to the cost of a new one of these from CB2, the seller should definitely be willing to drop the price to at least $100. This would be a great addition to your mid century modern home.
