Unique Art Deco Desk / Cabinet

Antique Writing Desk, Art Deco, Good Condition - $200 obo (Gainesville, VA)

This unique-looking Art Deco writing desk / cabinet / hutch is being offered for $200 (or best offer) and according to the seller is in "good condition" with "some scratches and chips on veneer". The listing is sparing and the photo is low quality making it a bit difficult to determine anything about this piece of furniture, its condition, or whether the price is reasonable. However, I can see that this desk / cabinet has a very nice set of vertical lines, a functional set of slots, cabinets, and drawers, and a combination of veneers including what looks like a burl on the upper cabinets and a wide wood grain on the lower drawers.

If you are interested in this period and style of furniture this is certainly worth a call to the seller for more information, or even a visit to see the piece. If it is in good condition, $200 may end up being a pretty good deal.

McCobb Planner Group Desk

Paul McCobb Planner Group Desk - $450 (NW)

This listing comes from Good Eye Mid Century Modern, a local furniture and collectibles store on Wisconsin Ave in the Tenleytown / Friendship Heights area. They have been posting a number of items on Craig's List lately, trying to get rid of excess inventory. Mostly, these items are priced at, more or less, retail value, which is more than I care to pay (otherwise why bother with Craig's List?). 

This listing, however, is a good deal. The Paul McCobb Planner Group is one of the most well-known and avidly collected lines of mid century modern furniture. This line was intended to be mainstream and consisted of flexible combinations of furniture to suit varying consumer needs.

The desk offered here is one of my favorite pieces in this line. It is simple, functional, and elegant. Like other pieces in this line, it is made of solid maple and lightly stained. Originally listed at $500, the price seems to be $450 now (although there is some discrepancy between the price in the title and within the post). Look around, and you will quickly realize that this is a significant discount.

A great piece at a good price. Not only a nice addition to your home, but also bound to be a good investment.

Modern wood and chrome table

Solid wood table - $200 (Falls Church)

This is a beautiful, modern, solid wood table with chrome legs that appears to be in good condition. According to the seller the table shows some signs of wear, but clearly the problems are cosmetic and reparable.  I love the clean look of this table, with its simple chrome legs supporting the straight, rectangular wood slab, which is finished in a very modern stain. 

The style of the table also lends itself to many different situations; I could see this in a kitchen, dining room, work space, or even as a desk. Reasonably priced at $200, which, as the seller notes, is cheaper than a particle board table from Ikea!

FREE modern desk!

Beautiful antique desk!!! (North Bethesda)

A nice, modern looking desk available for FREE to the first person to pick it up in North Bethesda (preferably Saturday).  This is a cool desk, particularly for the price - medium stained wood with a white (formica?) top.  A unique and simple design with a single drawer, plus shelves and storage compartments below.  I love the single leg on the left side.

Teak desk

Teak desk - $85 (Vienna)

Simple, modern, $85... those qualities alone add up to a good deal. This is also a neat looking, functional desk. Can't tell from the photo if this is veneer (they say it is solid teak, but the description of drawer insides makes me wonder) and if so, what condition it is in.  Regardless, I think this is a cool modern desk at a good price, and definitely worth a couple questions to the seller about condition.

Now you just need to find the perfect Danish modern chair to go with it!
